The City of Las Vegas has completed construction of a new outdoor 50-meter competition pool at the Pavilion Regional Aquatic Center, expanding the region’s capacity for competitive swimming events and community aquatic programs.
The new pool sits beside the existing 50-meter facility, creating a larger aquatic complex capable of supporting major competitions, athlete training and local swimming programs. The additional water space also allows the existing pool to serve as a warm-up and warm-down facility during large events.
Advanced design supports multiple competition formats
The new seven-foot-deep pool features a flexible design that allows operators to configure it for different competition formats. The facility includes:
- 20 short-course 25-yard lanes
- Eight long-course 50-meter lanes
- A movable bulkhead for layout adjustments
- Capability to host 25-yard, 25-meter and 50-meter competitions
The design allows the venue to support a wide range of events, including regional, national and local swimming competitions.
Technology and spectator upgrades
The aquatic facility includes modern competition technology designed to meet the requirements of high-level swimming events.
The pool features an in-deck Colorado Gen 7 Timing System and a 21-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall full-color video display board. The facility also provides permanent spectator seating for up to 900 people, with the ability to add temporary bleachers for larger events.
The combination of expanded pool capacity, digital timing infrastructure and spectator amenities positions the Pavilion Regional Aquatic Center as a potential venue for major swimming competitions.
New facility expands Las Vegas swimming capacity
The new pool provides additional training and competition capacity for swimming organizations throughout the region. Ron Aitken, head coach of Sandpipers of Nevada, said the project addresses a long-standing need for more aquatic space in the Las Vegas community.
Aitken said the facility could support events such as USA Swimming Zones, Sectionals, Futures Championships and Pro Swim Series meets, along with local and regional competitions.
The new facility has already submitted bids to host USA Swimming events in 2027 and 2028, although no competitions have been officially scheduled.

The completion of the new 50-meter pool strengthens Las Vegas’ sports infrastructure by adding a competition-ready aquatic venue with flexible configurations and modern event technology. The project expands opportunities for athlete development, regional competitions and community recreation while increasing the city’s ability to attract major swimming events.
