The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) will transition construction activities on U.S. Highway 93 north of Hollister to nighttime operations beginning July 12. The schedule change will allow contractors to continue major roadway preparation work while reducing daytime travel impacts for motorists.
The US-93 project team will focus on shoulder excavation, ditch improvements, and roadway preparation activities during the next four months. These improvements will support future base restoration and pavement replacement as part of the broader highway rehabilitation effort.
Construction on the highway corridor began in early June, and ITD expects the project to reach completion in early 2027. The work forms part of Idaho’s ongoing investment in transportation infrastructure improvements aimed at improving roadway conditions and supporting safer travel.
Night Work Schedule and Traffic Controls
Night construction activities will run from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday. Crews will operate between 3250 North and 3800 North on US-93, where motorists will encounter reduced traffic capacity.
During active work periods, contractors will maintain one lane of traffic through the construction zone. Flaggers and a pilot car will guide vehicles through the area to support safe movement around workers, machinery, and active excavation areas.
Contractors will use light towers to illuminate the work zone during overnight operations. The additional lighting will help crews complete excavation and roadway preparation tasks while maintaining visibility and safety standards.
Roadway Preparation Supports Future Pavement Restoration
The current phase of construction focuses on preparing the highway for future restoration work. Crews will remove and reshape roadside areas, improve drainage features, and prepare the roadway structure for new pavement installation.
Shoulder excavation and ditch improvements play an important role in long-term highway performance. Proper drainage reduces water-related damage, while a stronger roadway base helps extend pavement service life and improve driving conditions.
The upcoming pavement restoration phase will rebuild sections of the highway surface after crews complete the underlying preparation work. This approach allows contractors to address structural issues before installing new pavement layers.
ITD Advises Motorists to Plan for Delays
ITD encourages drivers traveling through the construction area to slow down, follow posted signs, and remain alert for workers and heavy equipment. Motorists should also allow additional travel time when passing through the work zone.
The department recommends checking current traffic conditions before traveling through the area. Drivers can access updated information about construction impacts through the official Idaho traffic information service at 511.idaho.gov.
